
430 W 8th, Newport Ky Northern Kentucky Consortium Home Rehabilitation Helps Family Become Newport’s Newest Homeowner The rehabilitation of the 430 West 8th Street home has created an affordable homeownership opportunity for a family in need. The new owner is Manuel Juarez. Manuel was referred to HONK by Sr. Mary Noella SND, the latter thinking that HONK might be a good agency to help Manuel find permanent housing and homeownership. Even with his lower income Manuel had maintained a very good credit score. That enabled HONK to help him secure down payment assistance from Kentucky Federal Savings and Loans. Manuel is from the Philippines and is awaiting the arrival of his wife Velda from his native country as soon as the Immigration Service approves. “His wife still being in the Philippines presented a couple of obstacles that slowed the process a little bit,” said David Hastings, HONK Executive Director. “We are very happy for Manuel.” “I wanted a place that was mine,” said Manuel. “Now I have a place for me and my family to call OPEN HOUSE Housing Opportunities of Northern KY (HONK) will held an Open House and ribbon cutting ceremony in celebration of the completion of the total renovation of the home located at 430 West 8th Street, Newport on September 17, 2010 from 2:00-3:00 PM. The event was attended by Newport Mayor Jerry Peluso and other local officials in addition to companies involved in the construction of the home.
The rehabilitation of the 430 West 8th Street home has created an affordable homeownership opportunity for a family in need. This house was acquired by HONK from Fifth Third Bank. Funds from Northern Kentucky HOME Consortium were utilized for the rehabilitation. HONK gutted and reconfigured the layout of the house. The Northern Kentucky Home Builders
Association’s trade classes, under the direction of Steve Estey, worked with HONK Construction Manager, Steve Lutkenhoff, HONK’s construction staff and volunteers to bring new life to an inhabitable shell of a house.
